RICKY ROCKS THOSE RETROS

At LABB we love and focus on new designers and all things new and shiny. We simply love it. But as very good FASH-nista knows vintage and retro is simply an undeniable CLASSIC.

For this issue with the theme TEXTURE, we thought why not hunt down the classics that have absolutely refused to shift in men's wear. The focus is on cuts and fabrics and maybe something a little fun to aid the discerning male fashion lover look sharp but relaxed while having some summer fun in these retro pieces.

Shoot by one of LABB's special friends and mentor Karl Baxter, who also shot the issue cover,  we could not wait to share.
Full Spread in Issue 1 volume 2 (The Texture Labb) out 07/06/2010.... Enjoy!

LABB LOVES... BOB PACKERT'S "THE COVEN" FOR LABB MAGAZINE

THE COVEN for LABB MAGAZINE ISSUE 2
(TEXTURE LABB)

Labb is mainly an open submissions magazine. We also do commissions and do a few in-house shoots. For anyone who works on an open submissions print magazine, you know how many unsuitable spread suggestions you get daily.

Its always super exciting when you open that email, and there is it. Something highly polished, relevant and visually stunning.

When we got this spread from  Bob Packert, we all were very excited, it certainly was a breath of fresh air! It is based on an opulent Victorian cult with a mix of Black magic, high fashion and rock & roll.

We thought we would share a few of the pictures from the spread. Look out for the full spread in TEXTURE LABB out 7/06/2010

ENJOY!

LABB LOVES.... TSEMAYE BINITIE

IN LIVING COLOUR (SS10)

Labb magazine specialises in the promotion of new fresh talent and we literally hunt it down (like hungry wolfs). Usually in the process we see of lots of good simple ideas but with poor execution. As any good fashion insider knows "Simple is not so easiest thing to do".

Well we found a new flame that begs to differ with his simple, effortless classic pieces. Its clear to see at a glance that  Tsemaye Binitie's SS 10 collection is very well executed.

Nigerian born Tsemaye graduated from Kingston University London in 2004. In the same year, he joined the the design team at Stella McCartney.

In 2009 Tsemaye started his self titled label TSEMAYE BINITIE. His designs are luxurious, refined & timeless.

LABB VERDICT: Next generation  of "must have" . No wardrobe will be complete without a modern innovative classic from Tsemaye Binitie

LABB LOVES ..... IOANNIS DIMITROUSIS' A/W 2010

AND IT GLOWS IN THE DARK

Oh yes! you did read right. Ioannis' new collection does glow in the dark. But don't let that fool you into thinking we are talking about some tacky, crazy dress in some stretch day glow / neon fabric.

No no no, its knitwear, exquisite, well manipulated and brilliantly constructed pieces.

Every couple of years we all find a new designer who hits the right notes each season and we look forward to seeing what they do next. Ioannis Dimitrousis is one of them. The deceptive simplicity of his collections gives a lot of food for thought, and his A/W 2010 collection did not disappoint.
Featuring intricate constructions that appear as loose structures, stunning zip handles, beads and conical shapes on the bodies that are very reminiscent of Marje circa the 80's (but done in a very modern way). This new collection is a collectors dream as it delivers FASHION-ART to marvel at.

LABB VERDICT: intricacy and creativity 10/10. We all want one, so should you.

LABB LOVES... Illustrations by Spiros Halaris

Trolling through the my facebook like we all do (shame, I think not), I spotted this invite for the LFW AW10 show for one of my favourite designers of the moment ZIAD GHANEM.

I immediately wanted to know "WHO IS THE ILLUSTRATOR?". So say "ELLO" to super hot new talent Spiros Halaris. Pulling his inspirations from edgy couture fashion as well as "the punk movement" and rock & roll culture, Spiros creates visual designs that can easily be classified as a feast for the eyes.
His illustrations are very inspirational and certainly WALL WORTHY.

LABB VERDICT: A Spiros Halaris print is a definite investment.

Spiros will be featured in the next issue of Labb (TEXTURE LABB)
 Here is a quick preview

LABB LOVES... AFRO SIMPLICITY BY KIRETTE COUTURE

MAKE IT A KC SS10

We have all noticed the rise in afro inspired designs gracing the runways from Paris to Milan or should we say NY to LDN. But authenticity is and will always be a treasured aspect.

Kirette couture fronted by Anrette Ngafor & Kibnen Nfi is keeping it authenticity at it core. The collection is inspired by West African (Cameroon) tribal wear, but what we get as a product of clever design are simple, chic summer pieces with fabulous embroidery and choice of fabrics that are bound to give you a spring in your step as you strut about in the warm weather. OH did we mention there are menswear pieces too... YAY!

LABB LOVES....BRIGHTS & UNIQUE PRINTS by OLIVIA RUBIN [SS10]

WELL ITS HERE! Yes gay old Spring which only mean summer is just round the bend (in England) or 2  blocks away (NYC style).

So what do we say at LABB HQ: Break out the cocktails, killer heels and slip into a fiercely colourful print dress by London's very own OLIVIA RUBIN.

Editor's choice: Opie

Olivia Rubin, graduated from CSM in 2006 with a BA in Fashion Print and has been a favourite with happening young bright celebs.

LABB SAYS: Invest in a chic piece that will translate seamlessly from the "got to go" day event to the "need to be there" evening event.

LABB LOVES....Selam Yohan's AW10 COLLECTION

SHOES SHOES SHOES and EVEN MORE SO, FIERCELY DESIGNED SHOES.

We are all shoes fanatics. There are very very very few forward individual who can stake a claim to the fact that they are not shoe crazy (secretly or openly).

When we spotted these gold plated number by Selam Yohan at an AW10 preview shoot for Designer ROMERO BRYAN we where instantly in love.

Selam Yohan is an MA graduate from the prestigious Cordwainers (LCF). Her handmade luxury footwear designs are simply stunning. Her attention to detail especially the inclusion of tricky braided seams and interesting cuts while giving the shoes simple clean lines, make this collection highly desirable.

LABB VERDICT: A collection that has been created to suit many a need. From Classic evening and cocktail friendly pieces to quirky and adventurous chic pieces. There is something for every style.
